1000-Lb Sisters: Is Amanda Too Thin
1000-lb Sisters star Amanda Halterman has lost a lot of weight since having bariatric surgery in March 2023, but she may be losing too much weight too quickly. The series, which premiered in 2020, centers around the extraordinary weight-loss journeys of Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton, but their sister, Amanda, has also gotten in on the action. Amanda didn’t appear on the show until season 4 because she was going through a divorce. Though she wasn’t on the show, during the first few years, she has always been close to Tammy Slaton, Amy Slaton, and her other siblings.
Amanda grew up with her siblings in Shawneetown, Illinois. Unlike her sisters, Tammy and Amy, Amanda didn’t struggle with food growing up. In fact, she was always thin. It wasn’t until after she got married and started having four children that the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star started putting on weight. After years of struggling, Amanda had her second bariatric surgery in March 2023, and she looks like a different person. After an uncharacteristic social media absence, Amanda addressed concerns that she was losing too much weight too quickly.
Amanda Halterman’s Weight-Loss Journey
She Celebrated Her “Surgeversery”
1000-lb Sisters season 5 features a scene where Amanda and her other sister, Misty Slaton Wentworth, make a big announcement to Tammy, Amy, and their brother, Chris Combs, about wanting to undergo weight-loss surgery. “Me and Misty’s been going to see Dr. Smith,” Amanda told her siblings. Dr. Eric Smith is the bariatric surgeon who treated Tammy as well as Chris. During the discussion, the Slatons talk about everyone’s fears about the weight-loss procedure, which can include complications and even death.
Since Tammy, Amy, and Chris have all undergone the surgery, they understand the procedure can be dangerous.
Amanda Went Through A Tough Divorce
She’s A Single Woman
While filming 1000-lb Sisters season 4, Amanda quietly finalized her divorce from her ex-husband, Jason Halterman. Though the couple amicably parted ways in August 2020, the couple’s divorce wasn’t finalized until two years later, in August 2022. Jason is the brother of Michael Halterman, who was married to Amy until their recent divorce. Amanda and Jason were married in December 1998 and had four sons together.
Amanda Addresses Concerns About Her Well-Being
She’s Been Busy
In April, over a year after her weight-loss surgery, Amanda posted a TikTok of herself looking like a sliver of her former self. Though Amanda hasn’t publicly commented on exactly how much weight she’s lost, it’s clear that Amanda is significantly thinner than when she made her television debut. Though her body isn’t visible in the video, her face is shockingly slim, and she looks like a different person.
The post has 12.1K likes, and the caption reads, “ Thankful to have followers that are concerned die to my lack of interaction recently. Ive just been busy […] much love to you all .”
In the TikTok clip, Amanda directly addresses her followers’ concerns. Amanda says she knows she hasn’t posted live for a while, but it’s because she’s been busy living her life. She assured everyone that she was doing well and that there was no reason for concern. It’s worth noting that Amanda looks healthy on TikTok, and her skin looks clear and bright. Fans took to the comment section to send love Amanda’s way.
In a sentiment that was well represented, one person wrote ” You are looking really good! Can’t wait to see you next season! ”
Slaton Weight Loss Journeys
It’s A Family Affair
When it comes to extraordinary weight loss, Amanda’s famous sisters, Tammy and Amy, lead the way. Amy weighed over 400 pounds when the series premiered. Having always dreamed of being a mother, Amy knew she had to lose weight and get healthy. After receiving bariatric surgery during 1000-lb Sisters season 1, Amy lost 125 pounds and had two children, Glenn and Gage Halterman, with her husband, Michael.
Sadly, Amy and Michael’s marriage fell apart, and they separated during 1000-lb Sisters season 5.
Tammy’s weight-loss journey wasn’t as linear as Amy’s. She weighed 680 pounds when she made her 1000-lb Sisters debut and went up to 720 pounds by season 4. When a health scare landed her in a medically-induced coma, Tammy knew it was do or die. She focused on treating her food addiction, and after bariatric surgery, Tammy lost over 400 pounds.
Not to be left out of the fun, their brother, Chris, had bariatric surgery during 1000-lb Sisters season 3 and lost over 150 pounds. Their other sister, Misty, had surgery on the same day as Amanda and with the same doctor. Though it’s unclear how much weight Misty has lost since the surgery, she looks significantly thinner these days. 1000-lb Sisters season 6 will likely continue to follow all the Slatons as they continue their weight-loss journeys.
