1000-Lb Sisters: Why Chris Combs Hasn’t Had Skin Removal Surgery

1000-Lb Sisters star Chris Combs has lost a significant amount of weight since bariatric surgery, but it has left him with excess skin that he hasn’t had surgically removed yet. The series centers around the weight-loss journeys of sisters Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton, but their brother, Chris, has been there for his sisters since the show premiered in 2020. Inspired by his famous sisters, Chris went on his own incredible weight-loss journey.

Chris grew up in Illinois alongside Amy and Tammy and their other two sisters: Misty Wentworth and Amanda Halterman. The 1000-lb Sisters season 5 stars were raised by a single mother and developed bad eating habits during their childhoods. Chris weighed 450 pounds when he made his television debut, but he has since shed 150 pounds through diet, exercise, and bariatric surgery. Losing so much weight so fast has left him with excess skin that he has yet to have it surgically removed.

Chris Is Eager To Have Skin Removal Surgery

His Doctor Hasn’t Cleared Him Yet

During 1000-lb Sisters season 4, episode 3, in a scene posted to YouTube by TLC Australia, Chris asked his wife, Brittany Combs, to help him measure his waist. He wanted to know what his waist size would be if he didn’t have the extra skin. His waist turned out to be 46″ around under all the skin when it used to be 66″. Chris explained the challenges of having all this excess skin. “You got all this loose blubber, or skin, running around,” said Chris, adding, “Then you gotta worry about sweat, body odor.”

Chris lamented the fact that the excess skin was taking a toll on his self-confidence.

As usual, he made a joke of the whole situation, likening himself to a flying squirrel. When his wife, Brittany, lovingly insisted that he was not a flying squirrel, Chris said, “I am. I could jump off a building and glide to the next state.” It’s that kind of fun-loving, self-deprecating humor that’s made Chris a favorite on 1000-lb Sisters.

Chris was very eager to remove excess skin, but his bariatric surgeon, Dr. Eric Smith, didn’t think he was ready. Despite Chris losing an incredible amount of weight, Dr. Smith explained that a plastic surgeon would want to see that Chris’s weight had stabilized. He also asked Chris to lose another 50 pounds before he’d even consider approving him for surgery.

Chris Combs’ Weight Loss Journey

He Had Sleeve Bypass Surgery

1000-lb Sisters star Chris embarked on his weight-loss journey alongside his step-sisters, Tammy and Amy. Wanting to emulate their weight loss success for the sake of a healthier and more fulfilling life, Chris recognized the need for medical intervention to address his deteriorating health. During 1000-lb Sisters season 3, Chris underwent gastric sleeve bypass surgery, and the pounds quickly melted away. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a sleeve bypass involves removing a large piece of the stomach, reducing it to just a narrow sleeve.

Chris After Weight Loss

He Ran A 5K

In March, Dr. Smith posted an amazing before and after of Chris on Instagram. On the left side of the split screen is a photo of Chris, pre-weight-loss, wearing his fast-food uniform, and on the right is a recent photo of a slimmed-down Chris finishing a 5k run. The caption reads, “Remember when riding a rollercoaster for the first time was a big deal for @chris.combs.5243? Well, Chris just left that thrill in the dust by finishing his first 5k this past weekend!” Like his sisters, Tammy and Amy, Chris’ weight loss transformation has been extraordinary.
