1000-Lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton’s extraordinary weight-loss journey has been an emotional roller coaster. Though it’s amazing that she has lost over 400 pounds, she’s had her share of ups and downs. When the show premiered in 2020, Tammy weighed 680 pounds. Despite the repeated warnings of multiple doctors, Tammy gained more weight. In fact, by the time season 3 rolled around, Tammy weighed 725 pounds. By that point, she had given up on her diet and partied a lot. She seemed to have no intention of losing weight.

Everything changed for the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star after a health scare landed her in the hospital. After Tammy came out of her week-long medically induced coma, she knew that her life depended on losing weight. After checking into a rehab facility and focusing on treating her food addiction, she received bariatric surgery and lost over 400 pounds.

Tammy went from weighing 725 pounds to weighing 278 pounds, and her entire life changed completely. Before she lost weight, she rarely left the house and was a prisoner of her own body. Since slimming down, Tammy has regained her mobility and lives a fuller, more active life. Her incredible weight-loss transformation hasn’t been without its ups and downs. Here are some of Tammy’s biggest meltdowns during her weight-loss journey.

Tammy Slaton Deleted Her Instagram Over Scam Allegations

Don’t Come For The Queen

In 2021, Tammy was filming 1000-lb Sisters season 3, but she had a lot of other things going on. The longtime influencer had started a website to sell merchandise. She was also offering her services on Cameo, which is a site where fans can buy personalized messages from their favorite celebrities. Fans were unhappy with the way Tammy’s merchandise shop was being run, and many were angry that she wasn’t turning around their Cameo messages quickly enough.

She got swarmed with so much criticism on her Instagram page, that, in a moment of high drama, Tammy deleted her entire account with all 1.2 million followers.

Tammy returned to Instagram soon after and has a significant presence there these days, but this was a great example of Tammy being unable to control her emotions. Tammy has always been hot-headed, and she has always had trouble taking criticism, so her meltdown was on brand for the 1000-lb Sisters star. Since then, Tammy has been more on top of her business ventures, so she hasn’t been accused of trying to scam her fans.

Tammy Slaton Cried Because She Missed Caleb Willingham

It’s Better To Have Loved And Lost…

Tammy has never been lucky in love. Her first boyfriend on the show was Jerry Sykes, who Tammy dated for several years before the premiere of 1000-lb Sisters. They met in a BBW chatroom and talked for several years before Jerry came to Kentucky to visit Tammy during season 2. Jerry ate a lot of junk food around Tammy, which made it hard for her to stick to her diet. Making matters worse, Jerry was a married man with seven children. His wife learned about the affair when the show aired.

Then, during 1000-lb Sisters season 3, Tammy dated Phillip Redmond. Tammy met Phillip in a BBW chatroom, where he went by the name “The BBW King.” Phillip was clearly a man with a fetish for obese women, which was a threat to her weight-loss. Tammy put on even more weight during the relationship. Later during the season, Tammy and Phillip had a falling out, and Tammy alleged that Phillip was harassing her. Things got so bad that Tammy got a restraining order against Phillip.

During 1000-lb Sisters season 4, Tammy finally met a nice guy. After her health scare, Tammy checked herself into a rehab facility where she met another patient, Caleb Willingham. The two fell in love and were married in 2022, in a wedding that aired at the end of 1000-lb Sisters season 4. Unlike her past relationships, Caleb didn’t hold Tammy back from losing weight. Sadly, 41-year-old Caleb died in 2023, only six months after the couple tied the knot, due to complications caused by his obesity.

During the finale of 1000-lb Sisters season 5, Tammy was emotional as she buried her young husband, finding herself widowed and on her own again.

Tammy Sobbed When She Felt Like A “Burden” To Amy

Sisterly Love

When 1000-lb Sisters stars Tammy and her sister, Amy Slaton, made their television debut, they were trapped in an unhealthy dynamic. Tammy’s mobility was so limited that she needed her sister, Amy, to do everything for her. Amy and her husband, Michael, had to cart Tammy around, as well as pick up her medicine, groceries, and anything else she needed. In a clip from 1000-lb Sisters season 5 that TLC posted on their Instagram page, an emotional Tammy apologizes to Amy for being a burden.

Losing weight was the best thing that ever happened to Amy and Tammy’s relationship, because now Tammy can take care of herself.

The Slatons Weight Loss Journeys

Fun For The Whole Family

Like Tammy, Amy has lost a lot of weight over the years. When she made her television debut, she weighed over 450 pounds. During 1000-lb Sisters season 1, she lost 125. Amy experienced her own emotional upheaval as she went through a painful divorce from her husband, Michael Halterman.

By the end of 1000-lb Sisters season 5, Amy found herself a single mother of two, struggling with mental health issues.

Amy and Tammy inspired several other members of the Slaton family to lose weight too. Amy and Tammy’s brother, Chris, had bariatric surgery during 1000-lb Sisters season 3 and has lost 150 pounds. Their other sisters, Amanda Halterman and Misty Slaton Wentworth, had bariatric surgery in March 2023 and have been losing weight since. Their weight-loss journeys have had highs and lows, but the Slatons have managed to improve their health.
