Slaton Family Photos (See Tammy As A Child)
The Slatons of 1000-lb Sisters fame are a very close clan, and they’ve taken plenty of family photos over the years. The series centers around the weight-loss journeys of Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton, but their siblings, Chris Combs, Misty Wentworth, and Amanda Halterman, have gone on their own journeys. Since the show’s premiere in 2020, the five siblings have lost a combined 1000-plus pounds. When they made their television debuts, Amy weighed 400 pounds, and Tammy weighed 720 pounds at her heaviest. Though not as big as their sisters, Chris, Misty, and Amanda were overweight too.
Each of the Slatons had their own reasons for wanting to lose weight, and struggled in different ways to achieve their goals. Judging from family photos taken through the years, it’s clear that the Slatons have always had weight issues. They started gaining weight as kids, and their problems escalated as they entered adulthood. Through the years, the Slatons have pursued their various health and fitness goals, while supporting each other every step of the way. The 1000-lb Sisters season 5 stars have made amazing weight-loss progress, and they’ve been posting photos to prove it.
1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy and Amy told People that the origins of their weight gain date back to childhood, and they attribute it to genetics, emotional eating, and socioeconomic factors. “I’ve always had a weight issue,” Tammy said. “I was born 9 lbs. 10 oz., and then I just kept gaining.” “Our whole family’s big,” Amy added. The type of food available to them was also an issue.
Amy and Tammy’s mother worked three jobs to support them and their three siblings, so they had to prepare their own meals. “And at 10 and 11, you really couldn’t prepare healthy food and stuff,” Amy continued. “The microwave was our best friend,” Tammy added. “Ramen noodles, bowls of soup, things that were quick and easy — stuff that adds on carbs.”
Their grandmother helped their mother raise them and, when their grandmother died in 1999, Amy and Tammy turned to food to fill the emotional void.
