In the 90 Day Fiancé cinematic universe, castmates utilizing clickbait to amp up their social media metrics is practically an everyday occurrence. But Nicole Nafziger, 30, is under fire for faking her own death in a desperate attempt to stay relevant on social media.

Nafziger first appeared in season four of 90 Day Fiancé alongside Azan Tefou. The couple split in July of 2021 after calling off their wedding two times. Still,  Nicole seems determined to expand her fifteen minutes of fame.

90 Day Fiancé: Nicole’s History of Clickbait

While faking her death may be her most extreme social media stunt, Nicole has a long history of relying upon clickbait to cling to relevance.

90 Day Fiance': Nicole Nafziger alarmed after father's arrest

In March of 2024, Nicole faked a pregnancy. She posted a now-deleted photo of a sonogram with her name on it. One user commented beneath the photo, “I’m sure it’s clickbait.”

Back in April, Nicole made a post insinuating that her ex, Azan Tefou, had passed away.

She captioned the post “RIP,” leaving fans speculating that Azan had passed away. However, the link associated with the post simply listed celebrities who had passed away during 2023. This blatant use of clickbait quickly drew criticism from fans. Nicole disabled comments before deleting the post entirely. That still didn’t stop fans from leaving comments on her other posts.

90 Day Fiancé: Nicole Shocks Fans by Faking Her Death

Nicole has previously admitted that she shares links to fake articles for what she refers to as “her own advantage.” This most likely means that Nicole gets paid per click. But on May 1st, Nicole truly attempted to outdo herself, posting a black and white photo with the caption, “#RIP devastated to confirm SHE HAS DIED,” with the infamous #linkinbio.

The link lead to a separate article about celebrity deaths in 2022. She couldn’t even try to find an article from 2023. The website was also full of ads.

Of course, as of May, 3, the post has been deleted. But fans have still found a way to express their outrage on Nicole’s most recent Instagram post that remains on the grid from August 2023.

Whether it’s faking her death or implying that her daughter is unwell, fans are letting Nicole know that she crossed a line and lost their trust.

User @lovely_latrevate commented, “If [sic] your not dead , please go to therapy and find some peace within yourself my love ! Social media isn’t the way when your not ok.”

While @dmcapoz said, “Implying something is wrong with your daughter is heartbreaking. I never minded your clickbait, but I’m done seeing you in my feed because this is simply wrong to do as a parent. I hope nothing bad ever happens to your little one.”

One of the most notable things about social media is the way that social media allows users to build a unique connection with their fanbase. However, faking one’s own death is downright morbid. However tempting it may be to engage with Nicole’s content, perhaps refusing to engage with Nicole’s content will send the message that it’s not okay to exploit oneself and your loved one for a few clicks.

As Instagram user @lauren.janell put it, “Don’t click! Don’t click!”
