When 1000-lb Sisters premiered in 2020, Tammy Slaton weighed almost 700 pounds but never had a problem finding dates. The show centers around the weight-loss journeys of Tammy and her sister, Amy Slaton, and it also chronicles their personal lives. While Amy was married until recently, throughout the series, Tammy was a single woman looking for love. Due to her limited mobility, she rarely left the house, which made her feel lonely and left out. It also made it harder to meet people, including eligible bachelors.
Though her options were limited, Tammy often had a romantic interest. Even at her heaviest, the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star had no trouble meeting potential suitors because she spent a lot of time in BBW chatrooms. BBW stands for Big Beautiful Women, and Tammy met several of her past boyfriends there. Though her family feared that meeting men who like morbidly obese women was in direct opposition to her weight-loss journey, Tammy continued to pursue men who held her back.
Jerry Sykes
1000-Lb Sisters Seasons 2 & 3
Tammy met Jerry Sykes several years before the premiere of 1000-lb Sisters. They met in a BBW chatroom and talked for several years before Jerry came to Kentucky to visit Tammy during season 2. Tammy’s family didn’t approve of her relationship with Jerry, who they thought was a “feeder.” Jerry had a terrible diet and ate a lot of junk food around Tammy, which made it hard for her to stick to her diet. Tammy’s brother, Chris Combs, even took Jerry aside during season 2 to ask him to stop bringing junk food into the house, to no avail.
Amy confessed that she disliked Jerry because Tammy “needs somebody that’s gonna motivate her in this weight loss, not just want her to stay the way she is.”
Making matters worse, Jerry was a married man with seven children. In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Jerry’s now ex-wife, Kia Russell-Rucker Sykes, said she learned about the affair when the show aired. She also alleged that Tammy knew Jerry was married with seven children, but dated him anyway. Though Tammy and Jerry broke up during season 2, they had a brief affair during season 3. Kia divorced Jerry, explaining, “I don’t think I can forgive him anymore. We have seven kids together. They are upset with him.”
Phillip Redmond
1000-Lb Sisters Season 3
Though Tammy had a string of bad relationships long before the premiere of 1000-lb Sisters, Phillip Redmond is in the running for her worst boyfriend ever. Tammy met Phillip in a BBW chatroom, where he went by the name “The BBW King”. Phillip was clearly a man with a fetish for obese women, which Tammy’s family saw as a threat to her weight-loss journey. Sadly, they were right. Tammy prioritized her relationship over her weight-loss goals, putting on even more weight during her relationship with Phillip.
Phillip told Tammy that though he supported her desire to lose weight, he didn’t want her under 300 pounds.
Later during the season, Tammy and Phillip had a falling out. Tammy alleged that Phillip and his friends were harassing her. Things got so bad that Tammy got a restraining order against Phillip. For a while, it seemed that the relationship was over, but Tammy went back to Phillip briefly in a moment of weakness. Thankfully, their brief reconciliation didn’t last and the 1000-lb Sisters star got back on track pursuing her weight-loss goals.
Caleb Willingham
1000-Lb Sisters Seasons 4 & 5
During 1000-lb Sisters season 4, Tammy finally met a nice guy. After her health scare, Tammy realized she needed help losing weight and checked herself into a diet rehab facility. While there, she met another patient, Caleb Willingham, a rapper and poet who struggled with food addiction throughout his life. The two fell in love and were married in 2022, in a wedding that aired at the end of 1000-lb Sisters season 4. Unlike her past relationships, Caleb didn’t hold Tammy back from losing weight.
In fact, the 1000-lb Sisters star lost enough weight to receive her bariatric surgery and was discharged from the facility. Caleb didn’t lose enough weight to join her, so the newlyweds were separated. Though they spoke daily, the separation was difficult. Sadly, 41-year-old Caleb died in 2023, only six months after the couple tied the knot, due to complications caused by his obesity. During the finale of 1000-lb Sisters season 5, Tammy found herself widowed and on her own again.

Tammy has lost over 400 pounds since making her television debut, and she seems determined to keep losing weight.
