90 Day Fiancé Spoilers: Did Mahmoud Sherbiny Get Fired By TLC After Shocking Situation With Nicole Sherbiny?

On the surface, 90 Day Fiancé spoilers can sometimes feel like the uncanny valley of reality television. The couples are unbelievably mismatched, the sound bytes are endlessly meme-able, and cast members are quick to capitalize on their burgeoning fame.

But as a network, TLC often works overtime to ensure that viewers are unaware of some of the darker dynamics at play with series regulars.

Now, with rumors swirling that Nicole Sherbiny chose to stay with Mahmoud El Sherbiny following his arrest for domestic violence, Mahmoud’s history of transphobia is also rising to the surface despite TLC’s repeated attempts to keep it under wraps.

90 Day Fiancé Spoilers: Nicole and Mahmoud: A Rocky Start

Nicole and Mahmoud first appeared on season four of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, which aired in January of 2023. Nicole is a 40-year-old fashion designer and L.A. transplant by way of Idaho.

She first met Mahmoud five years ago, on the last day of what she called a “spiritual” trip to Egypt. Nicole explained, “I was shopping, and I saw this super cute boy with like these big brown eyes and these big sexy muscles, and he goes, ‘You should stay in Egypt and be my wife.” The pair married a mere two weeks after meeting.

Following their marriage, Nicole also converted to Islam. She stayed in Cairo for two months. However, Nicole and Mahmoud immediately clashed, mostly concerning cultural differences.

Mahmoud disliked Nicole’s sense of style, which was integral to her identity as a designer. Mahmoud often wanted Nicole to cover her body and hair, which she agreed to. Mahmoud is a devout Muslim.

Nicole also struggled with the transition from L.A. to Cairo. She had a tough time making friends in Egypt and often talked to the camera crew about feeling alone and isolated.

Eventually, the couple agreed to compromise, with Mahmoud moving to the U.S. on a spousal Visa. Mahmoud moved to the U.S. in May of  2023.

90 Day Fiancé Spoilers: Domestic Violence Charges

On February 21, 2024 Mahmoud was arrested for domestic violence charges. 90 Day Fiancé blogger John Yates confirmed the arrest. He also confirmed that Mahmoud was booked under a different name than the one he uses publicly.

The Ashley obtained court documents which confirmed that Mahmoud was booked at Los Angeles’ North East Division Station at 2:50 A.M. He was held on bail for $20,000. He was bailed out by a friend.

While the documents did not state who the alleged victim was, blogger @MerryPants confirmed it was Nicole.

Eight days after Mahmoud’s arrest, Nicole shared a post on Instagram from the Musawah Movement, reading, “Violence against women is a global phenomenon that cuts across all cultures, religions, countries, and contexts.”

Mahmoud was set to appear in court on March 13.

On April 15, Reddit user @LearnEnglishGabe shared a screenshot of Nicole’s Instagram which showed that she had re-uploaded previously deleted photos of Mahmoud. This seemed to confirm fan speculation that the couple remains together despite Mahmoud’s legal troubles.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud posted an Instagram update of his own, adding, “I hate reality TV.” to his Instagram bio.

90 Day Fiancé Spoilers: Mahmoud’s History of Transphobia

In 2023, Screenrant published an article wherein fellow 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way cast member Gabe Paboga alleged that Mahmoud called him transphobic names while they were filming the tell-all.

Gabe told a fan via Instagram comments, “he came at me because he called me names as in he/she as well as asking what I am because he doesn’t know as well as other transphobic names.”

This, as well as Mahmoud’s history of domestic abuse, has left fans wondering whether TLC will continue to work with Mahmoud.

This would not be the first time a TLC star was fired for transphobic rhetoric. In 2018, Counting on star Derick Dillard was fired following his transphobic comments about fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings.

So, what do you think? Will TLC continue to work with Mahmoud for the sake of ratings? Or will they finally draw the line?
