Though the series 1000-lb Sisters centers around the weight-loss journeys of Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton, their other sister, Amanda Halterman, has also gotten in on the action. Through diet, exercise, and bariatric surgery, Amanda has lost around 300 pounds. Amanda grew up with Tammy, Amy, and their other siblings, in Shawneetown, Illinois. Like her sisters, Amanda developed an unhealthy relationship with food at an early age.
As Amanda grew up, she put on more and more weight, especially after she had children. Amanda didn’t appear in the first three seasons of 1000-lb Sisters because she was going through an ugly divorce, but she’s always been an integral part of her sisters’ lives. Though Amanda already had gastric bypass surgery, during 1000-lb Sisters season 5, she expressed serious interest in going in for a second surgery to lose even more weight. Amanda posts regularly on TikTok, and it’s easy to see how much weight she has lost over the years.

Amanda underwent a revision for her gastric bypass in March 2022, and she posted that it was her one-year surgery anniversary, or “surgeversary,” in March 2024. Her sister, Misty, had her revision surgery on the same day. Revision weight-loss surgery comes with a higher risk of complications for the patient than the first round of bariatric surgery.
During a gripping 1000-lb Sisters season 5 scene, Amanda and Misty announced their upcoming surgery to their siblings. Having all gone through the procedure themselves, Amy, Tammy, and Chris understood the risks. Amy was especially fearful after hearing about Amanda and Misty’s upcoming bariatric surgery.
“ Hearing Amanda and Misty get worked up about the surgery and them not making it out, it’s scary, ” Amy said. “ One slip and, oop, Amanda’s gone, or, oop, Misty’s gone. I need my sisters, not only because they’re my support system, but it’s family. ”

Amanda is probably wondering where all the time went. One minute, she’s holding her babies, and the next thing they’re graduating from high school. In May 2023, Amanda posted a graduation photo to TikTok. In the looped shot, the 1000-lb Sisters star is in the middle of her two sons, who are wearing a cap and gown.
During their 22-year marriage, Amanda and Jason Halterman had four children together, all of whom are adults.
The couple separated amicably in 2020, and Jason filed for divorce in 2022. Only one of their children was under 18 at the time, and Amanda was awarded primary custody. Jason is the brother of Michael Halterman, who recently divorced Amanda’s sister, Amy, in a far more contentious split.

Since 1000-lb Sisters premiered, Amy has lost 125 pounds, while Tammy has lost over 400 pounds.
Not to be left out of all the weight-loss fun, their step-brother, Chris Combs, lost over 150 pounds, and their sister, Misty Slaton Wentworth, recently had bariatric surgery. Fans of the show have enjoyed watching the Slatons lose all their weight over the years and have felt inspired by their incredible, impressive journeys.
Second Chance At Love
Since Amanda lost weight, she dated a few men, but nothing clicked until she met her new boyfriend, RJ, in 2023. In February 2024, Amanda posted a photo of her and her new man on TikTok, with the song “Little Life” by Cordelia playing in the background.
